Ice is something aviation knows inside out, and the aircraft comes prepared for it from the factory.
The aircraft heats itself
The leading edges of the wings and the engine air inlets have anti-ice systems (hot air bled from the engines, or electric heating) that stop ice forming or remove it. Key sensors are heated too.
On the ground, it’s de-iced before departure
If there’s ice or snow, the aircraft is sprayed with de-icing/anti-icing fluid before takeoff. Planes don’t take off with iced-up wings — it’s a standard, checked procedure.
Pilots manage it as routine
They fly according to weather information, switch on the anti-ice systems when appropriate and avoid the worst areas. Icing is a foreseen, controlled phenomenon, not a surprise.
